Ilija Prokopiev was born in Skopje, Macedonia (1985), where he lives and works. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Skopje (2008) and received an MSc degree in Interdisciplinary Cultural Studies at the Institute of Macedonian Literature in Skopje (2014). Prokopiev is an interdisciplinary artist and culturologist. His artistic practice involves working simultaneously in several artistic mediums, such as drawing, painting, animation, installation as well as public art projects.
Prokopiev’s works have been shown in many exhibitions, including the 15th Mediterranean Biennale for young artists (BJCEM) in Thessaloniki (2011) and the 42nd Osten Biennial of Drawing in Skopje (2015). In 2011, he won the award DENES – Young Visual Artist Award, for the work ‘Very Large Drawings’.
His professional practice also involves book illustration, writing and publishing. In 2016 he co-founded ‘Private Print’, a publishing house which focuses on art books and other art related publications.
